Cocanha Flame Folclòre
Kings Place, Hall Two, N1 9AG , [Venue Details]Cocanha are two singular voices, those of Caroline Dufau and Lila Fraysse,
carried by the pulsation of ‘tambourins à cordes’ or string drum, feet and hands. In this impactful face-to-face, the two musicians deliver their complementary vocal personalities, built over 12 years of artistic complicity.
Cocanha cultivates minimalism and is part of the aesthetics of amplified music, inviting our bodies to dance. Cocanha draws from the traditional Occitan repertoire, recovering songs from the archives, and proudly placing them back on the timeline of an oral art form. Some lyrics are rewritten, others invented, springing from a common imagination as large as the open skies, where the protagonists re-appropriate their political and desiring power.
In a centralist French state with a strong colonial past, silencing the languages that inhabit it and formatting accents, Cocanha chooses to sing in Occitan. This artistic adventure is supported by their Toulouse company Dardalh, based in the territory where they live, create and act.
